Decent value for the hobbyistFor the price this kit is adequate. There’s a good range of sizes and the case is sturdy enough to hold all the bits together in the right place. I’ve only tapped one hole so far but it worked fine. The die holder has a strange device fitted underneath which I deduce is for ‘self-centering’ – but as the dies can only fit in one position (held by three screws) this seemed pointless so I removed it.The kit includes ‘fine’ and ‘coarse’ cutters – I didn’t realise metric threads came in two forms but apparently they do. The die threads are chamfered on one side for easier starting (apparently not all dies are like that).The quality of the cutters seems fine but the holders feel cheap and a bit wobbly. If I used taps and dies more often I might have chosen a more expensive set, but for light or occasional DIY use this kit seems to have everything covered.

You Know You Want To…I’d put off buying a set for decades thinking “i only need it for one job – i’ll find another solution”. Finally i really needed to clean my wheel stud threads and nuts after some heavy-handed fitter rounded them. And i needed a big set to include an M10x1.25. There are lots to choose from, but Sealey has been around as long as i’ve been deliberating so i decided to buy a reputable brand i knew and i finally capitulated when i found this set as a ‘warehouse’ item.So glad i did. Sorted my wheel studs and have since done two odd jobs – fixing a blowlamp knob and a toilet seat stud! I’m sure i’ll find plenty more uses. Wish i’d bought a set years ago. Good quality as i expected.On the downside, it would have been nice to have some basic instructions for non-engineer purchasers (of which there are plenty judging by the Q&As). I must admit i’m still not sure about the sliding assembly on the die holder and i only discovered the proper technique to locate split dies after i had used it. Maybe it was just missing from the warehouse deal box.

Solid setDon’t normally bother with reviews but this deserves it! If your looking for a good selection in a tap and die set then you have found the one. The taps and dies both give an excellent cut and really are what every mechanic/engineer needs in there collection! Don’t look any further than this set. Top work sealey!

Really nice but…I’ve wanted a tap and die set for years and this one was at the right price. The set comes in a nice sheet steel box which is easily stored in a tool cabinet drawer. Inside is a plastic blow moulded tray with all the taps, dies and handles. The quality of the tools is really good. Very nicely made with no sharp burrs. All nicely dressed. Good quality.The reason for 4 stars and not 5, I wish the taps came as sets of 3 for each size. It would have been nice to see taper taps and bottoming taps to sit alongside the plug taps. I would have paid the extra to have those extra taps but I guess the set is built to a price so I’ll just have to buy the others separately. The other thing is the dies come in 2 thread spacings for each thread width but in all honesty m5, m6 and m8 only usually use one thread spacing so the other die in these sizes is just about useless. The m10 is great to have the two thread spacings as it’s more often used.Just my 2 pence worth

Worth the ExtraI ordered a cheaper set, but returned it because it was poorly finished, before buying this one. I had a tricky hole to tap in a snapped high-tensile chassis bolt. Couldn’t risk the tap snapping. Using the correct drill size is crucial for any tap and I bought a cobalt set to get through the bolt cleanly. Used a tapping fluid and went easy on it, backing out after a full turn. Worked a treat, ( saved £££ garage fees ) and I can’t see any wear to the tap.Used a 6mm die to put a thread on a steel rod, no problem. I won’t be using this often, but it’s nice to know I can trust it.

Poor Die seatingTaps all of, but unfortunately the Dies do not sit correctly in the tool. This causes the thread to run incorrectly. Have to compensate every time to ensure thread is being cur correctly.

Amazon warehouse purchaseI purchased this set through Amazon warehouse, described as minor defects to packaging.I thought it was worth a punt at £45 inc 10% discount.To be honest I was prepared to be disapointed with the condition,I was a little concerned what amazon considered “minor”.It arrived this morning, third day after order on std delivery,(from Amazon EU s.a.r.l no problems).Taking it out of the well packed box,all I could see on the metal case were two small dents to the base, I would have accepted these regardless of price.The contents sounded as thought they were all loose inside so that got me thinking maybe it was the internal casing that was damaged.It turned out to be fine ,it’s just as other reviews have said, the internal plastic tray doesn’t hold the contents very well if tipped up.Theres a thin plastic upper tray with a thin foam insert to hold everything in place but the std foam is too thin, I used a thicker bit of foam , job done.The quality of the actual taps & dies looks to be fine, not best quality such as Presto etc, but certainly a lot better than some of the trash you see kicking about.Having the correct sized drills is handy too.I believe the the term used these days is WIN !

Good Value Set, already justified the cost.Often looked at tap and die sets but never really needed one. A motorbike repair left me thinking how useful a set would be. This set appeared to be reasonable quality at a decent price. My first use has been a complete success. The set worked a treat and a tricky job, thanks to previous hamfisted “mechanic”, was made easy with this set. Bolt and shaft threads tidied up in no time and the job completed in seconds.

Well presentedI had to rethread a damaged bolt and this kit helped the repair. This is the first time I have bought a tap and die set, so I hope to get future use out of it. I like technical equipment and do my best when repairing or making items, I thought this set was well made and organised in the case, for the lay person.
