10 reviews for Flymo EasiGlide 300 Hover Collect Lawn Mower – 1700W Motor, 30cm Cutting Width, 20 Litre Grass Box, Folds Flat, 10m Cable

Despite the daft handle design, a pleasure to use. Hovers cannot be all thing to all people.(Many) years ago I worked for Black &Decker when they made hover mowers. Ours was very simple but very robust, made from ABS plastic. My own example gave many years of service. This appears to be mostly polypropylene, which is cheap, light weight, more robust than it looks but its physical appearance will soon deteriorate – glossy finishes are inappropriate for a lawn mower. To hover it requires a powerful motor (which it has) and very light weight (which it is). Forget grass collection, these things mulsh the grass and the principle of operation makes collection inevitably ‘hit and miss’. If it had a sensible size grass box and did collect all the cuttings it would become too heavy to hover! Most complaints concern the change to a metal lower handle. The old moulded – on plastic lower handle could be used to carry the mower, but this one is much longer and so only you people over seven feet tall can now do that. Lucky you. The plastic snap- on bolts are really daft. Mine seem okay at. present but its obvious that the handle has a ‘wrenching’ effect and many of these will snap out as easily as they snap in (see photo). Like another reviewer I will replace mine with proper metal ones, but the plastic bracket supporting them also looks inadequate . The hooks for holding a stowed cable are much too close together and, anyway, if you stow the mower with the handle folded they cannot be used at all. However, just dump the cable in the grass box (photo). Why were the changes made ? Possibly to save money on new tooling for the major plastic moulding. Its not all bad! I am getting very old and have to carry the mower to reach the front garden. Though now rather awkward to lift this is very light and very easy to manoeuvre on the grass in confined spaces. There is a good metal blade and it cuts well – though I need to use all three blade spacers. With no spacer there is no cut! The grass box simply slides in and out. The mower was very cheap to buy – I paid less than £90 which, frankly, is ridiculous value for money. I could have paid even less by buying the model without grassbox. Hovers are for mulching the grass, not collecting it. Despite all the criticism this will doubtless do the job and compared with my six year old (and still serviceable) ‘old’ wheeled mower it is a pleasure to use. Ideally I’d give this mower 3 1/2 stars, but I’m feeling generous today.

Excellent mower for the priceBought this for my ‘postage-stamp’ sized lawn and the mower is very capable of producing a good manicured garden lawn. It’s very easy to assemble and the instructions supplied are easy to follow. The mower comes with spacers to adjust the height of the blade for different grass lengths, just remember to follow the correct sequence when reassembling. The downside, in my opinion, is the machine plastics are poorly made and do not fit very well together. The lid to the grass collecting box has a fairly large gap around it which causes the cuttings to fly everywhere except in the box. The box for the cuttings also doesn’t quite fit snuggly onto the top of the motor, which in turn let’s cuttings enter the motor! Therefore after each cut it means having to vacuum the grass cutting out of the machine as well around the paths etc. This is really only a minor problem that may just be a one off and this is only my opinion. It’s still a better machine for the price opposed to others I’ve tried and worth the extra 10 minutes clean up after the job!

Great for uneven lawnsHaving struggled for many years with using a standard electric mower on my very uneven lawn, I decided to do somecresearch before my next lawnmower purchase. I discovered that Flymo Hover Mowers are designed with uneven ground in mind so decided to give one a go.POSITIVES: I have to admit, it cits the lawn like a dream. The mower hovers off the ground on a cushion of air and can be moved in all directions, side to side, forwards and backwards, and you get a very even cut. Hover mowers don’t grip into the ground ripping into the turf or soild and can be used to mow right over the edge without the mower ruining the neat lines! It is also lightweight and not as noisy as my previous mowers either.DOWNSIDES: Because the mower sits above the ground, not all of the cuttings are collected. Cut grass gets blown all over the person mowing, any nearby paths or up any fencing or walls near to the lawn. The basket does collect some of the cuttings but my old mower needed emptying 4 times just for the back garden lawn but the hover mower only needed emptying once and even then it wasn’t full.Mowing may be easier but the clean up afterwards isn’t and I wasn’t expecting to have to sweep up the paths and sweep down the fencing after mowing the lawn. Another negative is that the mower may be able to run over the edge of the lawn but it does not cut it. After mowing, I was left with a long fringe of grass around the lawns and had to manually cut around the lawn. This also added extra time onto the mowing task.

Designed by an amateurI have never bought anything other than Flymo and had nothing but good things from them. However I reckon whoever designed the grass collection must have been a failed GCSE student. It is evident that because the mower only just clears the ground the cuttings can’t escape to be picked up therefore when you move the mower it sprays cuttings everywhere. Sure it does pick up some but nothing like the promo video. It is lightweight and easy to manoeuvre not great system to fold handle down. I think with some relatively easy modifications I can make the grass pick up within the cutting shield. Now if I can do it why couldn’t the designer. In summary it cuts well but you might need a good grass rake and a stiff broom to finish off. Update after a few regular uses. Its loads worse than I thought. Will be dumping and getting another brand immediately that collects the grass better.

Very good for a small garden. The cable is a nuisance when storing . I fitted a male and female flying socket and plug.

Flymo Easiglide 3003 years ago, I purchased a Flymo Easiglide 300 which lasted almost 3 seasons until it packed up last week. I admit that it suffered terrible vibrations but eventually it needed replacement and here I am the owner of the exact same model number albeit under a new configuration. What do I like? Well I like the cable is now held on the handle itself & the wheels look more sturdier & certainly help to move the mower along – I used it today and it gave a good cut. What didn’t I like? I can no longer fold the handle as before & while the handle can be moved forward to hang the mower for storage I don’t have that luxury so I need to rethink my storage location.I registered this Flymo online & received the additional 2nd year warranty. I could have had the 3rd year for £39 but decided against this. What I also find annoying is that Amazon lump reviews for different models together, these reviews can give good information if they are all held together by product.Hope you like the review

FlimseyWorked fine initially. Then the blade hit a tree route, and now it makes a lot of noise, with vibrations. Dont think it will last long.
