Brilliant tool but don’t bother with the basketAfter years of back- breaking hand raking, I bit the bullet and bought one of these. What a fantastic tool. I have a relatively small lawn but I filled three large garden bags with dead grass and moss. The lawn looks a bit sad but I’ve no doubt it will be greener and healthier in a few months. On first use, only use the highest setting as that is more than enough trauma for your lawn! Be aware that the little basket on the back fills up after about 5 seconds on a newly scarified lawn so is not really worth it and is why I’ve docked a star. The manual is slightly confusing about which roller is the scarifier and which the raker /aerator. The tool with blades is the scarifier – the one with thin tines appears to be the power raker.

Fantastic bit of kitI never usually have the time or need to post a review. I do so if I have something to grumble about or warn people off of a product. However – I actually logged into Amazon today to leave this review because the product was worth the effort (and I have the time).Just for the record – I am not affiliated with or sponsored to leave any guest posts. That is not the world I come from (I work in IT).I’m no gardener or landscaper but having moved to a new property with a larger garden…I had to start new projects and learn how to improve things for myself and my family. Moss was a big issue with the lawn and a scarifier was on the list. Having read numerous reviews I settled on the Chinese made Einhall (german) scarifier and rake. Putting it together was very simple (20 mins) and then being quite lightweight I carried it with the simple handle on top to the worst affected areas of the lawn – plugged in the extension lead to my plug and got to work. The attached photo is my halfway point and it took a fair amount of raking to pile this lot up. With some new grass seeding and water, this area is already looking revitalized. It is by far one of my best purchases on Amazon.

Good productIt does a good job scarifying and raking. Easy to put together and changing between rake or scarifier is quick. On the negative side, the bag to collect the grass is filling up extremely quick, to the point that is impractical and most of the time I don’t use it. Good product in general.

Does the job but height adjustment is crude.Does the job but height adjustment is crude. On the day of purchase I only compared this with a Bosch on Amazon, but decided on this Einhell based on lower price (Bosch was £115 on the day), this Einhell as more powerful motor, and smaller bulk so as to take up less space inside the shed. Height adjustment is crude and each front wheel has to be adjusted seperately. It is also difficult to tell what setting it is unless you watch it rise and lowers as you adjust it. This is why I only scored it 4 stars. Had I waited a week or two before purchase, I would have found one or two more models of similar size. Although these cost £10 to £15 more, the height adjustment by one single lever would have made them worthwhile. So far only used it once, on the least setting so as not to rip up evety blade of grass. As it is anticipated to be used only once a year rather than for comercial use, reckon it fair price to pay for poor height adjustment. I would exchange it for better design if front and back lawns have various levels to scarify.

Fantastic Little MachineI would usually pay a company or hire a machine to scarify and aerate but decided to try this machine after seeing a review online.A fantastic lightweight machine that really has done a great job at removing thatch from the lawn ready for renovation. It badly needed it.For the price, fantastic!

Confusing terminology and it is not an aerator in the normal sense of the word.Lets get this sorted as there seems to be lots of confusion! The manufacturer told me that:# The solid bladed roller is the scarifier# The spring tines roller is the aerator.I have never heard of a spring tine rake or spring tine mechanical device being referred to as an aerator. An aerator makes holes through the grass and into the soil underneath. These are either solid spikes, hollow tine spikes or slitting blades.Yes, a spring tine rake does have an aerating effect by removing debris from the base of the grass but I don’t think that device would spring to mind when you think of a lawn aerator.Consequently I assumed that the solid slitting blade roller was the aerator but emailed the manufacturer for clarification. They told me that was the scarifier.Consequently I think it is confusingly described as it is NOT an aerator in the commonly used sense of the word. I bought this expecting to be able to de-thatch and make deep holes. It does not make deep holes to aerate your lawn.IMHO it should be described as a “scarifier and power rake”.So how does it perform? I have found that the solid bladed roller (scarifier) does one thing well: it rips out the grass and moss well ( a bit too well, even on the highest setting you don’t have much lawn left). However, what it doesn’t do is cut deep into the soil to provide a nice bed for overseeding. It just makes some lines on the surface. Even on the lowest setting it just disturbs the top of the soil. So you are left with no grass and having to fork over the soil to make a seed bed.The spring tine blade (so-called aerator) is excellent at ripping out all the surface thatch and moss though. Once up and down and then diagonal gave me masses of debris to sweep up. It also rips out a lot of nice growing grass though which is a shame, I would think about 50% of what it raked out was good grass but that might be normal for a power rake.I don’t think I’ll be using the so-called scarifier again but will definitely use the spring tines roller twice a year.

Must have for any gardenI never imagined how many death grass I had in my garden!!! I have around 70sqm of grass and it fill a full bin only with death grass. My grass is 5 yes old so it is considered young but full of debris.ONLY ISSUE. You can not stop otherwise the crop falls between the collection bag and rollers

EinhellDoes a good job but I feel it’s not great at the edges and it can leave you with no grass if your not careful. But it did a great job lifting all the moss

Cheap, and just about adequate.I wanted a scarifier and this is just about that. Fair enough.Under £120 and just about adequate. Makes a bit of a mess, the capture bin is tiny and the cable is infuriatingly short. The raking blades are not sharp and just mangle weeds which in some respect is quite good.Cheap and cheerful.Pros. Very easy to assemble and use, really lightweight.Cons. Cable too short, always gets in the way and sort of scarifies but not brilliant.Might work for a very small garden and for someone who isn’t too fussed about their lawn, but for anything more heavyweight perhaps spend more money and spec up.
