I have a neighbour that has 2 banana trees which they remove the leaves and wrap up for Winter. They told me that the banana trees don’t grow bananas in the UK which seems like alot of maintenance for a tree that gives nothing back and if only for aesthetic reasons, only half of the year! What’s the point? Is my neighbour correct?

Your neighbour is right! Banana trees actually require warm tropical climates to grow and produce fruit. The UK is far too cold for a banana tree to grow bananas, even in the hottest of months.

However, they do make a great ornamental plant and are aestheticly pleasing. I think it’s one of those plants/trees that are great to show off to friends and family.
